It's a perfect foil for grilled white fish. Admittedly, it's expensive but it's worth pushing the boat out for.

<![CDATA[Le Monde 2 – 13 February 2010 ]]> (...) The Syrah is very happy here, which is quite unusual on this island, and its marriage with the Nielluccio gives reds of great aromatic finesse and high class tannins that make this Clos Poggiale 2006 a little marvel.”(…) “This wine is now one of the red jewels of the Skalli family, who have worked hard to raise the profile of Mediterranean wines over the past thirty years.”

Clos Poggiale red 2003 : 1 star

This deep red wine offers a complex range with red fruits aromas, spicy notes of Nielluciu and violet touches of Syrah, the whole enveloped in woody nuances. The well-present structure seems a little firm in final, but the persistent flavour is very pleasant. Decant for an immediate pleasure with a red meat or let age several years to discover it again with a tournedos with a black chocolate sauce.

<![CDATA[ESSEN & TRINKEN – December 2004]]>

2001 – CLOS POGGIALE red

A cuvee full of character, blend of Nielluccio - the local grape variety, and Syrah - Southern France grape variety. The nose opens to an intense bouquet of blackberry, vermouth and rosemary.

In the mouth, tannins are silky, finish is long with notes of garrigue and spices, pine kernel.

The couple Costa recommends you to serve this wine with boar or “stufatu” a typical Corsican pasta-based meal, very spicy. This wine needs to be well aerated : decant ½ hour before the service.

2003 – CLOS POGGIALE white

Fruity and floral aromas, combining lime and honeysuckle. In the mouth, tangerine and mango are prevailing, evolving to a finish lightly spicy. The local grape variety, Vermentino, is very harmonious and give this fresh wine, well-balanced with a nice minerality.

This wine will be ideal with oysters and seafood, as by oneself in aperitive.

<![CDATA[GUIDE HUBERT 2005-2006 Professional information for the professionals]]>

“The Corsican wines are more and more favourably considered in catering. Clos Poggiale red, vinified with Nielluccio and Syrah, and Clos Poggiale white vinified with pure Vermentino, are unanimously recognized as the event of Corsican wines during these last two years.

With their very pure, elegant and fruity styles, they bring to the table a spirit of novelty and surprise by the fineness of their character.”

<![CDATA[GUIDE HACHETTE 2005 : 2 Stars]]>

"The Skalli group, present in Corsica, owns a very nice property, perfectly managed by Christian Costa, in the Tallone area, bordering the Diana pond. His talented wife, Elise, looks after the vinifications. After our favourite Clos Pioggiale red 2004, this year they make us discover an outstanding white 2003, crystal clear with hints of green. This wine is very aromatic : with notes of toasted almonds, a touch of mint, and bitter orange. It is round and well balanced, crisp in the mouth. You should hurry to acquire this wine due to its small production (13 000 bottles) which will be unable to satisfy all the amateurs’ demands."

<![CDATA[JancisRobinson.com - Août 2010]]> 16,5 - Skalli, Domaine du Silène, Grande Cuvée 2006 (Languedoc, Grès de Montpellier)- Drink 2010-2014 "The 2006 vintage was chosen because it is a bit more open than the particularly concentrated 2005. Syrah 80% with Grenache and 22 months in barriques, of which 70% were new. Very deep crimson. Rich savoury and definitely Mediterranean, but without any overripeness. Great balance and zest. Should not be served too warm but it's envelopingly appealing.."

<![CDATA[GUIDE HACHETTE 2005 : 2 Stars]]> “The name of the domaine comes from an antique clay head of Silène found on the land.
2 cuvées are vinified in honour of Bacchus’s mentor : “Esprit du Silène” red (2001) received 1 star. This cuvee from the domaine, deap purple, evokes powerful notes of spices, coffee beans and underwood. The well-structured tannins on the palate reveals an excellent keeping potential.” 2 stars

<![CDATA[BETTANE & DESSEAUVE 2005]]> “This domaine which used to be owned by the Pourcel twin brothers (famous restaurant owners in Montpellier) was taken over by Robert Skalli in 2000. He wants to promote it as one of the major crus of the Coteaux du Languedoc. The wines benefitting from excellent ageing conditions are rich in taste and very clean.
They are mature, rich, generous and totally open, the cuvee 2001 of the domaine is surely the best vintage since its take-over. You should drink it now, as for the second wine, l‘Esprit du Silène is less heady but pulpy and harmonious. Also well-done : the attractive rosé 2003."

<![CDATA[Cuisine et vins de France]]> The '99 vintage of this Cabernet Sauvignon bearing the name of "F" by Robert Skalli is so complete and ready to drink it almost took the "coup de coeur" prize. A beautiful colour, a magnificent nose, a soft and silky attack in the mouth which picks out notes of blackcurrant jelly and a long, lingering finish – this is a Rolls Royce of a red! A way of giving pause for thought to critics of the Languedoc wine trade. Drink over the next 3 years, with a nice rib of beef.
