Legend has it that an earthenware seal bearing an effigy of Silenus (tutor of Dionysius the Greek god of wine and the grape) was found on this estate in the heart of the Coteaux du Languedoc – Grès de Montpellier appellation area.


The estate is ideally situated on gravely sandstone soils, deep and rich in minerals. Set in typical healthy Mediterranean garrigue scrubland, it produces an outstanding Syrah as well as a little Grenache and Cinsault.


To bring out the full potential of Domaine du Silène, the Skalli family uses its thorough knowledge of southern terroirs and their own unique know-how: the cultivation methods are perfectly adapted to the Mediterranean climate, vines are re-trellised to favour optimum development, pruning methods are improved to maximise grape exposure to sunlight and the grapes are handpicked.


The wines of Silène assert their personality from vintage to vintage. Their spicy garrigue aromas mingle with a deeper strength, concentration and elegance.
